    April's Riverton Community Market 2025

What an epic market!  The weather couldn’t have been better.  It was like a summers day: mild and calm, perfect conditions for doing a last run of apple pressing with the remaining apples from my trees, showcasing how easy (and delicious) it can be to extract delicious apple juice from excess apples.  Some of this juice will be turned into apple cider by a rather amazing alchemist friend, and the rest will go to the wonderful souls that loaned us the equipment for the market; the apple muncher was from Plant South (which is on the right as you’re heading into town from Lornville roundabout) – they have great plants and are also very happy to share their growing wisdom.  The hydraulic apple press was kindly loaned from Chris (in Bluff) – thanks Chris! Keep in mind for the next (hopefully more productive!) apple season, that the March and April markets will be our apple pressing ones.  Save bottles and windfall apples and bring them to press so you can take away juice to share with family and friends!

We had five new stall-holders at this market – with a range of; beautiful hand-dyed woollen socks; plants and seeds; wooden planter boxes; gorgeous wire-art; and beady delights.  Our talented regular stall-holders are always adding new products and crafted art to their stalls so there are always different things to see and buy – the market is a veritable feast for the eyes!  Thanks also to our musicians (we love you) and also to Jasmin with her epic music playlist (which was waaaay better than mine)!

The winning apple shortcake - well done Patrick!!
The winning apple shortcake - well done Patrick!!

The baking competition this month was Apple Shortcake. We had 4 entries ... and then only 3 as mine had to be withdrawn – again – for not being fully cooked on the base (haha – oooops – chef I am not)!  All the entries were delicious so thanks for participating.  The winner was 12 year old Patrick from Taramoa, (entry number 2 for those who taste-tested) – he was pretty chuffed with his win. Congrats Patrick!  His brothers and sister are already getting a bit competitive for the next competition – which will be.... VegetableTart (-I’d better get practising now for that one!).

The raffle was won by Kyllee of Riverton.. this is actually the second time she’s won the market raffle (- it’s not surprising to me as she is all about manifesting beautiful abundance).  I asked her later in the day whether she was happy with the prizes – all donated by our generous stall-holders – and she said she can really feel the love in everything.  It’s true - it’s not just a raffle prize, it’s a basket full of love!  Thanks to all for your beautiful donations and to our market-goers for buying a ticket (or three!).

The next market falls on Sunday 25th May.  As ever – we look forward to seeing you there!
