With our 7th Riverton Community Market under our belt, we are getting into the swing of things. This market was attended by yet more wonderful souls, including a photographer (Colin) from Orepuki, who has, I think you’ll agree, captured some pretty special moment from this market. Despite the average weather on the outside, we had a lovely market .. we're very grateful to have a lovely warm and bright place to hold these markets - thanks to the Flecks Hall committee for making this space available for community activities!
This market featured Mary and Carolyne from the Riverton Repair Cafe - which operates under the philosophy of learning how to mend and make do, to extend the life of your belongings. Mary was on the sewing machine and Carolyne was offering jewelry repairs at her beautiful stall (CT Designs) and they will be at future markets so watch this space!
We also had mother and daughter Zoe and Ruby, who had a range of magical products under the Hippie Daze label - a selection of balms, lotions, candles, soaps and fizzing bath and shower salts. Ruby is a 12 year entrepreneur with a keen interest in all things healing and magic. I have been using their products (healing balm, lip balm, and bath/shower salts) since I met them, the week before the market, and I’m really enjoying how good they make my skin feel!
We also had a delightful local 7 year old, Eva, who offered free face painting... her offerings certainly added a festive vibe to the proceedings!
Then there was Mia, selling her beautiful cupcakes as a fundraiser for a squash trip to Auckland (NZ Junior Age Groups). Good on you Mia!
This time, I bought a sparkly painted rock from Rose (12 year old).. I decided that every time I see it (I’ve placed it in a prominent place) - it will remind me of the message in the beautifully coloured picture I bought from Rose at a previous market (which is in another prominent place). Thanks Rose - we love having you and your mum at the market!
The cinnamon scroll competition was a good (and delicious) one - it was a lazy kick-off (since some of us didn’t exactly get with the new time!) and quite a hard one to judge, as all the contenders were very good! There were joint winners this time - Ingrid of Invercargill (who almost didn’t make it in time) and Cassie from all the way out west in the Lillburn Valley, Tuatapere! Well done both and thanks everyone for your entries!
The raffle prize was won by Riverton local - Veronica. In purchasing some of our plants, she gave a lovely donation to our market that I really appreciated so I gave her a free raffle ticket as thanks ... and her ticket was the one that was drawn. It's so lovely when generosity is rewarded!
The music was wonderful, as ever, with a whole load of collaboration’s happening. Thanks guys - it always lifts the vibe!!
One of our beloved stall holders, Donnette (of Harvest Heaven), couldn’t man a stall this time as she was coming out the other side of the flu, but she popped in at the start of the day and offered a gift for the raffle. Absolute sweetheart! Love the spirit of this market.
I had a little look at the gorgeous Revamped Lamps as Giselle was setting up her stall on Saturday and have made a mental note to mention a certain lamp to my husband... (- does anyone else choose their own birthday present... is it an age thing?!!) . Anyway – I happen to have a small (actually any size!) lamp fetish... and happily I got to walk away from the market with the most gorgeous lamp (and for under $100 too!!) - super stoked! Mines the top one on the far right...
Our next market will be on labour day weekend and on the same day as the Riverton Rotary Garage Sale. Looking forward to it! If you'd like a stall for this one, please contact me (Tamsin). We could possibly have some stalls outside too, depending on the weather. Meanwhile - have a great month!
