June's Riverton Community Market

This market we decided on a new layout, just to spice things up a bit. The area where the baking competition tables are now positioned has a space for people to chat (and even sit down) and the rest of the market is more open and flowing. The gazebo was in the far corner, acting as both a stage for the musicians, and a 'room' for new stallholders from Tuatapere (Gareth and Love) - offering Havening (for trauma release and more) and Reiki (energy work). theschoolofconsciouscreation.com
The music was awesome - soooo happy to have 3 generations of very talented Bickley's playing and singing as well as our beautiful Iri! Kind of impossible to not tap your feet when the banjo is going!
This time we had new stallholder Sam (of Aroha Massage) giving 15 minute sessions of Thai massage in her massage chair. People were happy to take up this offering and you will be happy to know she will be offering this on a regular basis at the markets!
We also had Desiree bringing colour and flair to the market with her beautiful Made For You Fashion clothing range.
Then there were the Frankenstuffies!! These gorgeous creatures were handmade by local girl Alexia. Loving the creative enterprise our youngsters are showing!
The baking competition this time was Chocolate Brownies! Oh my goodness... bit of a sugar rush, especially when judging them all (multiple times) with no other food in the belly 🤣😂!! All the entries were really delicious but the winner was actually, somewhat surprisingly, my son, Oli, who I'd convinced to bake, on the promise that he could take the winnings if it won (minus the ingredient costs). The reason I was so surprised was because I tragically managed to underbake it even though I followed the recipe (... my excuse is we just got a new oven and still sussing it out!) so the brownie was more like brown batter that people had to be committed to trying, knowing it would be messy (i did provide spoons) 🤣. But our community judges are dedicated people so try it they did. And, despite the texture, it honestly was one of the most delicious brownies I've ever tasted... kudos to Naomi Toilalo of whanaukai.nz, who I've only just discovered and will most definitely be trying more of her recipes. The raffle (basket of love) was won by Leah of Waimatuku. Serendipitously, it happened to be her birthday!! I love it when things work out like that. Thanks to all the stallholders who generously donate gorgeous things for this raffle and thanks to all the market goers who buy a ticket and support our community market. You all rock! 😍
