The April Market

Wow - what a goodie! The stalls were vibrant, chokka with colourful displays of bread, produce, chocolates, plants, soaps, resin creations and mouth watering food. Kudos to Rose, our lovely 11 year old local, who was selling her beautiful colourings and pom-pom keyrings and to 7 year old Oli (he happens to be mine), who is learning about talking to customers and poster display for his Nerftastic (nerf gun target) game.

Along with some live music we also had the first in our series of BAKING COMPETITIONS. This one was for muffins and the prize was a $75 voucher for Supervalue. Anyone could try any of the muffins and vote on their favourite and I enjoyed looking over at the tasting station, seeing people picking and choosing and munching away with thoughtful expressions on their faces. The votes were cast and there was a clear winner - Jasmin Hill, with her Pumpkin and Pecan muffin entry. I'm pretty sure anyone who tasted that one will be keen for the recipe so she has kindly shared it on her website below:

Since Jasmin is also helping with the markets and keen to support our vision of building community, she has donated her $75 prize voucher back into the competition. So the next baking competition - which will be for Sausage Rolls, will have a prize for the winner of $75 cash PLUS a $75 Supervalue voucher!

A raffle was held to fund the prize money for the baking competition and the prizes were kindly donated from the stall-holders. The lucky winner this time was Angela Railton of Colac Bay who told me this was the first raffle she'd ever won in her life! She was very happy with the diversity of prizes in the hamper.

A big THANK YOU to all the stall-holders and helpers who help to make this the vibrant market that it is! Thanks also to our community for supporting this event.  Please spread the word about the baking competition for the next Riverton Community Market on 25th May and start pulling out your old recipes!
